I know, I share a lot about how I manage my days as a mama who struggles with anxiety. I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but I know so many have these same struggles and not only do I want them to know they are alone. But sharing is my healing, and I hope my sharing can help one of you. Today, I am sharing how affirmations have been beneficial to me
If you’ve got it all figured out and don’t need a pick me up or help in that department, this post may not be for you. If you are like, yaaaas girl, help me! Then keep on reading!
So what the heck is an affirmation and why are they so great?
Really, anything you say or think can be an affirmation. An affirmation is defined as “The action or process of something being affirmed” and “emotional support or encouragement”. So the goal is to focus on positive affirmations, rather then the negative. Affirmations help us open the door to change. The mind is powerful and the more you repeat or hear something, the easier it is to believe.
I choose to say my affirmations outloud each morning, and hard moments throughout my day. Why do I say them outloud? Well, I have a couple reasons. One, saying it outloud is very intentional, it makes me pause for a second and really focus on the words. The second reason, is because I want my kids to hear me say positive things about myself. I even have affirmations that I say with my kids, so they believe positives things about themselves as well.
Obviously there are moments when I may not be in a position to say them outloud. For those moments, I have them on cards, sticky notes, saved on my phone…I try to keep them easily accessible and in places I will see them throughout the day.
When I first started using affirmations, I totally felt like I was lying to myself. I didn’t believe any of these things about myself (sometimes I still don’t). But I am a firm believer in faking it till you make it. So today I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you. Just, maybe they will help you through a hard moment too.
Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your kids. Its OKAY to put yourself first, so you can give them your all.
Gosh, doesn’t mom guilt just stink?! Let it go, mama, you’re doing great!
You are the perfect mama for YOUR children. You know their needs and you do a good job meeting them. At the end of the day, they love your for just being their mama.
Each day is full of its own challenges and it is so hard not to set expectations. I find myself repeating this one over and over, and then reminding myself that there is always a new day tomorrow.
Say it a little louder… I AM ONE GOOD MOM!
You are killing it mama, even when it doesn’t feel like it, I promise you are.
Take a screen shot, print these out, right them down, save the link….read them, repeat them, share them.
I want to know if affirmations help you change your days, or if they are something you think you will try. Tell me in the comments!
